"Now we're told to 'follow the green sticks' as he leads us on our hikes. His younger sister was always taking them, so this year she got her own pink poles and loves them."

Will they fit my child?

The poles adjust from 17" to 34". A good fit puts your child's elbow at about 90 degrees with the tip on the ground, which works for kids from about 2'6" to 4'2" tall. Most families get several years out of a pair. Use the size checker below to see where your child lands.

Shipping and returns

Orders ship from the US, and orders over $100 ship free. If the poles aren't right, send them back unused within 30 days for a full refund. Questions? Email hello@hikerhunger.com and a real person on our small team will reply.

Every family hike, ever

Leave the stick.
Bring their poles.

Kids love having something in their hands on the trail. Sticks break, there's always a better one, and somebody ends up in tears. Their own pair of poles gives them a job, helps on the climbs, and lets them keep up with you.

"We are huge hikers in our family and our kids of course love finding hiking sticks along the way, but it usually ends up in tears because someone got a better stick, or the stick broke."

Made for little hikers

The same thinking as our adult poles, sized down

Parents keep telling us their kids "steal" their trekking poles. So we made a pair that fits.

Kids poles collapsed
17" collapsed
Kids poles extended
34" extended
01

Grows with them

Three telescoping sections adjust from 17" to 34". Set them short for a toddler and lengthen them every season.

Open flip lock on a red kids pole
02

Adjusts in seconds

Metal flip locks open and close with a thumb. Height markings on the shaft make it quick to set each kid's pair.

Kid-sized grip and wrist strap
03

Grips for small hands

Smaller grips and adjustable wrist straps. At 7.2 oz per pole, they're lighter than collapsed adult poles and easy to carry when legs get tired.

Great
fit

Set the poles to about 29"

That leaves 5" of room to grow before they max out.

Rule of thumb: pole length is about 68% of height, with the elbow bent near 90 degrees.

Questions

Good to know before you order

Talk to a real person

We're a small team in Bozeman. Email hello@hikerhunger.com or call or text (406) 219-1363 and we'll help you pick the right size.

What age are these for?

Height matters more than age. They fit kids from about 2'6" to 4'2" tall, which is roughly ages 2 to 9 for most kids. Customers have used them with 2-year-olds up to tall 9-year-olds. If your child is over 4'2", our adult poles are likely the better pick.

How do I adjust them?

Open the flip lock, slide the section to your child's height, and snap it closed. If a section slips, open the lock, give the small screw on the lock a quarter turn, and close it again. The height markings on the shaft help you set each kid's pair the same way every time.

Are the metal tips safe for kids?

The tungsten carbide tips grip dirt and rock on the trail. For sidewalks, playgrounds, and around the house, press on the rubber tips that come in the box. They cover the points and are quieter on hard ground.

Can my child lean their full weight on them?

The poles help with balance and climbing, but they aren't built to hold a child's full body weight. Remind little hikers they're for walking, not vaulting.

Do they make a good gift?

Most of our reviews come from parents and grandparents who gave them as birthday and holiday gifts. Everything arrives together in the carry bag. If the size or color isn't right, you have 30 days to return them unused for a full refund.

What does the warranty cover?

Every pair has a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects and breaks from normal use. If something fails, email us and we'll send replacement parts or a refund.

Do you make poles for adults too?

Yes. Our 100% Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles and Z-Style Folding Trekking Poles fit adults from about 5'0" to 6'4", so the whole family can hike together.
